A seamless way to commence the 2nd month into the academic year, July 1st fell perfectly on a Friday, just in time to celebrate SUMS’ first Monthly Devotion. Louie Cimafranca, the Religious Committee head, along with its new members, invited Interim-Senior Pastor Rev. Dr. Noriel C. Capulong of the Silliman University Pastoral Team as the meditation speaker in the solemn event.

Led by Katrina Pakilit, the ceremony started at 10:45am after waiting for the arrival of Reverend Capulong. He shared how he was mesmerized of SUMS, as it was his first time visiting the Medical School Building. His talk emphasized how one’s faith in the Lord makes him a trustworthy person. The sharing of his personal experience, he recalls how he felt appeased when his attending doctor asked him if he could hold a mass before his operation, despite him belonging to a different religion.

He expressed how being God-fearing makes a doctor more reliable to a patient, citing being good friends and also as a patient himself of the dean, Dr. Walden Ursos. He ended with a message to the students to establish a relationship with God and to seek his guidance throughout their journey in becoming Christian doctors.
