It’s that time of the year once again to crown a new Mr.
Hibalag. The event this year was a great event filled with lots of enthusiastic supporters from the varying departments. From the pre-pageant night on August 8 at Robinsons Mall to the pageant night on August 26 at The Hibalag booth area, there was never a dull moment. As expected, most of the contestants rose to the occasion and some of them could not. There were enormous numbers of supporters, full of chants, cheers and props to symbolize their organizations’ contestant. It was entertaining at the same time thrilling. I could not believe how talent-stacked this year’s event was.
The talents presented by the participant were contrasting: some opting for the traditional acts while the others were really unique. Overall, I thought it was a close competition.
As the pageant night came, the expectations rose among the
med students. Everyone was so sure that Mr. Kyle Solano would definitely be bringing home the news of back-to-back titles. Indeed, he did not disappoint; Kyle was witty in his answers and was very entertaining, with a sense of urgency and conviction. You can see that he really did give his best and that it was just all up to the judges.
Kyle was able to secure a spot in the Top 5 but fell short in owning the crown. Mr. Juri Nazareth Ochotorena, a Medical Technology student won the award. Even though Kyle did not win the title, he won more important things--- that is the heart and admiration of his fellow peers. Kyle was amazing throughout the event and we could see that he did give 100 percent effort that we just cannot complain.
Hopefully next year’s event would be as entertaining as or even better than this year. And as for Kyle Solano, no worries, you were the winner in our eyes!
So, to my fellow
med students, the search for the next Mr.
Hibalag SUMS candidate begins once more. This is our chance to represent and bring honor to our school. Join, be proud and show everyone how we,
med students, even with all our busy schedules, can still have time to enjoy life and excel in other things.
...because in Silliman University Medical School, we are more than just future doctors… we are artists and performers too!
