In commemoration of the 33rd International AIDS Candlelight Memorial (IACM), the first AIDS Hour in the Philippines was observed last May 14, 2016 at Liwasang Aurora, Quezon Memorial Circle, Quezon City with the theme “Know Your Status, Get Tested”. This event was participated by various organizations, health practitioners and students.
One of the goals of the said event is to end the stigma towards the disease and to pay tribute to those Filipinos who lost their battle towards HIV/AIDS.
Silliman University Medical School Association (SUMSA) was represented by Mr. Moh’d. Ryane Eid A. Bogabong, Chairperson of the Students’ Rights and Welfare Committee of the APMC-SN. Sharing of experiences by the HIV/AIDS patients is one of the highlights of the events aside from the anticipated AIDS Hour Photo Contest.
As healthcare professionals, it is our responsibility to raise awareness and to help in ending the discrimination associated with HIV. Let us be one in removing their fear and giving them hope.
