Turn on the bright lights, do the sound check and let future doctors give you a glimpse of NYC Broadway.

Once again, Silliman University Medical School (SUMS) took over the Luce Auditorium last August 24 for another spectacular performance. With various Broadway productions, the student body, even the doctors, did not disappoint the huge crowd. The show started on a high with a dazzling performance by the doctors and interns. First to present were the first years with their take on the Rock of Ages. Full of electrifying energy and solid music, the freshmen rocked on like there was no tomorrow. They featured rock music from the 80's which the audience surely sang along with. Second to preform were the fourth years with their rendition of The Phantom of the Opera. Undeniably, a theatric atmosphere of mystery and romance filled the venue. The audience could feel the immense longing by each of the characters. Next to perform were the third years with their version of Hairspray. Vibrant colors and joyous dance moves were flaunted on stage as the fight for equality among blacks and whites were depicted. Indeed, a bundle of contagious happiness was felt by the crowd. Last to present were the second years with their performance of classic --- Mary Poppins. Delightfully astonishing, the sophomores brought to life the kind yet magical nanny and many other charming characters. It was a showcase of graceful dances with unique forms and figures that left the crowd in awe and amazement.

The judges admitted that choosing a winner was not an easy task given how well each year level performed. They proclaimed the second years (Mary Poppins) as the overall champion. And the fourth years (The Phantom of the Opera) came in second place with the third years (Hairspray) and first years (Rock of Ages) in third and fourth place respectively.

As you can see, the medical school is not just confined to books and hospital duty. It knows how to balance and display intelligence and talent. The Variety Show is definitely something to look out for every Founder’s Day!

Kudos to everyone who participated and contributed to the success of this year Variety Show! Great Job!
