On a Friday, the 29th of  July, 2016 we had one of the most stimulating lectures during the 2nd Clinical Updates. As a first year student who has attended only a few  Clinical Updates lecture in the Silliman University Medical School, this particular conference has caused me to become expectant of the ones which shall come up in subsequent months.

The Dean of the Medical School, Dr Walden Ursos first inflamed our curiosity and thirst for knowledge by praising the Speaker who was, Dr. Kevin Mijares, a graduate of University of the Philippines College of Medicine. He finished his residency at the Philippine General Hospital, is now a pathologist at the Silliman University Medical Center and started teaching pathology at Silliman University Medical School this year, 2016. There was a huge cheer made by the Medical students in anticipation of his lecture when the Dean announced that he had graduated cum laude. Meeting all our mountain-high expectations, he delivered a comprehensive and easy-to-understand lecture about thyroid malignancies and specimen collection in doing thyroid needle biopsies.

Though the first and second year medical students had exams and brought their notes along to study during the lecture, many of them found themselves looking up and listening to the Doctor who explained the topic in terms we all could understand  and perhaps inspired some to go into pathology later in life after graduating from the medical school.
